One would hope that the voters of Montana would want to atone for their mistake of historic proportions (they elected Trump by a 15 pt margin). Instead, they just elected Greg Gianforte to the House.
Consider what unfolded- voters of Montana hear audio of Gianforte on the day before the election, going from cool and composed, to snapping in a split-second, punching reporter Ben Jacobs, then slamming him to the ground.
What triggered these violent impulses? Gianforte had previously stated that his position on the much-discussed GOP health care bill would depend on the score given to it by the Congressional Budget Office. Now that the CBO had just recently scored it, Jacobs asked Gianforte for his position. Gianforte replied that he wanted to talk about it later, and that Jacobs should speak with Shane. Jacobs seemingly was going to attempt to push Gianforte to answer the question, and then, as witnessed by Fox News reporter Alicia Acuna:
“At that point, Gianforte grabbed Jacobs by the neck with both hands and slammed him into the ground behind him. Faith, Keith (Acuna’s producer and crew) and I watched in disbelief as Gianforte then began punching the man, as he moved on top the reporter and began yelling something to the effect of ‘I’m sick and tired of this! Jacobs scrambled to his knees and said something about his glasses being broken. He asked Faith, Keith and myself for our names. In shock, we did not answer. He then said he wanted the police called and went to leave. Gianforte looked at the three of us and repeatedly apologized. At that point, I told him and Scanlon, who was now present, that we needed a moment. The men then left.”
The audio (included above) completely corroborates this witnesses account.
In truly Trump-like fashion, the Gianforte team release their version of events, which bear little semblance to the actual witness account, and stops short of giving details of what transpired when they were both on the ground. It’s a laughably fraudulent, but completely acceptable to those who are told that they’re allowed to live in a world where “alternative facts” have merit.
So the Republicans of Montana hear this audio and read this witnesses statement. And then they unconscionably say to themselves “Greg Gianforte -that’s our guy!”
And tonight they just him into office as a member of the House Of Representatives.
I’m Listening to Gianforte’s victory speech with his base shouting “Greg! Greg! Greg!” Sickening..
Keep it up Republicans. See what happens in 2018. ■
